Man charged with stealing three horses

Published:

— Horse tracks helped lead to three stolen horses, according to an arrest report released Monday.

Israel Almeida Lezcano, 36, 14721 Arbuckle Creek Road, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure, trespass and grand theft of farm animals.

The victim discovered in January that thieves had entered the Turner Cattle Co.’s ranch near Lake Placid and stole three horses owned by the ranch foreman, an arrest report said.

Through positioning the gates at the ranch, the horse thief or thieves was able to lasso the horses, the report said.

Initially, horse tracks were followed to U.S. 98 and County Road 621, but the tracks stopped there, the report said.

The next day a man saw two men riding two horses accompanied by another horse, all of which appeared to be the ones stolen, the report said.

Eventually, the report said, the horses were found on Lezcano’s property. Even though he said he found the horses running loose, authorities did not buy his story, the report said.
