Man arrested on 16 charges

LAKE PLACID A Sebring man already facing 15 charges had a 16th added when deputies said he tried to flee officers, according to an arrest report.

Tommy Dan Hipps Jr., 25, 614 Franklin St., Sebring, was arrested April 8 by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and charged with resisting an officer without violence, three counts of possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver, three counts of sale/delivery of marijuana, sale/delivery of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to sell/deliver, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear in court on charges of failure to pay a fine for violating game and fish rules, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon and cultivation of marijuana.

The arrest came after a deputy smelled marijuana and approached a suspect in Lake Placid, the report said.

The suspect, later identified as Hipps, fled and continued to flee even after he tripped and got back up, but was nabbed by the deputy, the report said.
