Man accused of having marijuana growing operation

Published:

— Authorities arrested a Lorida man after discovering 51 marijuana plants on his property, according to an arrest affidavit released Thursday.

Liverd Alvarez, 39, 2409 Bluff Hammock Road, Lorida, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and charged with altering utility equipment, possession of marijuana with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, trafficking marijuana, production of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.

The discovery of the marijuana came after Glades Electrical Coop., notified the sheriff’s office that a power transformer was operating “at a higher temperature than normal,” the report said.

During a resulting search of the residence, apparently near the transformer, deputies found five electrical power transformers, assorted power cords, light fixtures, five light bulbs and 51 marijuana plants, the report said.

Earlier this year, authorities found 74 marijuana plants in total on three properties in the Venus area after receiving information from Glades, authorities said.
