— An 86-year-old man told authorities his former girlfriend, a 44-year-old woman, threatened him and his property, according to a report released this week.

As a result, Carla Benari Turner, 44, of 106 Robinson St., Lake Placid, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and charged with assault on a person 65 years old or older.

The report said the man and the woman had lived together for about six years, but indicated they separated and he is now living with a wife.

The man reported that Turner, who was carrying a piece of wood, came to his residence and said that she was “going to harm him, damage his vehicle, as well as harm his wife, who was not present.”

At that point, Turner threw the piece of wood at him and then picked up another piece of wood and threw it at him, the report said.

Turner did not deny throwing the wood, but said her intent was not to hit the man with it, the report said.
