Lt. Col. Pigman deployed to Kuwait

Published:

AVON PARK State Rep. Cary Pigman, an Avon Park Republican and U.S. Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, left Friday for Georgia.

This week, he will leave on a 90-day deployment to Kuwait, where he will serve as an emergency medicine physician.

Pigman, who was elected in 2012 in House District 55, was an active duty member of the Navy from 1983 to 1989, before serving in the Navy Reserve and Army Reserve.

As a doctor, he was outspoken on health-care issues during his freshman legislative session and passed a high-profile measure, HB 1129, which requires doctors to care for infants born alive during an abortion.

Pigman can email constituents from Cary.Pigman@myfloridahouse.gov, and although there is a seven-hour time difference, he can also stay in touch through scheduled Skype calls.

“As long as the Internet connection is good,” Legislative Assistant Bryan E. Mielke said.

Pigman is scheduled to rotate back to the U.S. in August.
