LAKE PLACID -

Two Lake Placid High School Band Dragons have auditioned, been selected, and have each earned a coveted spot to march at this year's 86th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City.

Lake Placid High's band members Ashton Abela, a junior and this year's band captain, and Erik Yates, a senior and this year's drum major, will both be playing tenor saxophone at this year's Macy's Parade.

However, in order to attend this event, these teens must raise the money needed and pay their own way. Since their acceptance this past month, they have been raising funds through bake sales, letter-writing campaigns, public speaking presentations and by organizing additional fundraisers scheduled for the ensuing months.

The success of their upcoming spaghetti dinner fundraiser will determine whether the teens will have a realistic opportunity of raising the nearly $2,000 each will need before the first week of November.

The spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be sponsored by the Lake Placid Masonic Lodge 282, located at 102 N. Main Ave. in downtown Lake Placid and will be held Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at the lodge.

The dinner will consist of a homemade meatball and spaghetti dish, which will include a salad, bread, a selection of beverages and deserts. Attendees can eat there or carry out. All proceeds from the dinner will be donated by the Lake Placid Masonic Lodge for the teens. Tickets may be purchased from Adela Abela by calling 699-2779 or at the Lodge on Saturday.

Anyone can also help sponsor Yates and Abela by sending a donation to www.wepay.com., listed as "Send Erik and Ashton to Macy's Day Parade."
