LAKE PLACID — A 28-year-old man is in custody and charged with first degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man following an argument in a Lake Placid restaurant lounge.
Sadar Sadatt Hutchinson of Lake Placid has been charged with first degree murder, carrying a concealed firearm and discharging a firearm in public.
The shooting occurred around 2 a.m., Thursday at Platters Restaurant, 501 U.S. 27 S., Lake Placid Police Chief James Fansler said Friday.
Witnesses reported that Hutchinson and Marcos Garcia-Rangel, who were friends, had an argument that led to a small fight. Hutchinson left the restaurant and returned to the lounge with a gun and shot Rangel, who died from a single shot to the head, Fansler said.
“We had several witnesses; we did arrest the suspect; he actually returned to the scene and turned himself in,” he said.
Hutchinson used a .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun in the shooting, according to Fansler.
“We are still locating some witnesses and taking statements,” Fansler said. “We are trying to put everything together for a grand jury now. Anytime you have a first degree murder charge, you have to convene a grand jury to indict him.”
Hutchison was being held Friday in the Highlands County Jail with no bond.
