Tea party to meet for dinner
SEBRING - The Highlands tea party will meet for buffet dinner at 5 p.m., followed by its meeting from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Homer's Smorgasbord.

Grapes topic of garden club meeting
LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Garden Club will meet Wednesday at the Lake Placid Woman's Club, 10 N. Main St.
Socializing will begin at 11:30 a.m. with optional catered lunch at noon. The program, "Fruit on the Vine," will be presented by Drew Jones, of Henscratch Farms.

African Violet Society getting together
AVON PARK - The Heartland African Violet Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the activities room at Highlands Ridge, on Fairway Vista Drive, off Powerline Road.
The DVD, "African Violet Trailers: Making Them Do What I Want Them To Do" will be shown. Members will assess grooming needs of several trailers and starter plants from these trailers will be given to attendees.

SEBRING - The Sebring Elks Lodge on Lakeview Drive will host a public buffet breakfast 8-11 a.m. Oct. 13. Cost is $7 and includes eggs your way, sausage gravy and biscuits, ham, bacon, pancakes, toast, fruit bowl and beverages.
Highlands HOA to hear from DeLeon
SEBRING - The Highlands County Homeowners Association Inc. will meet 9-11 a.m. Oct. 14 at the Sebring Estates Clubhouse, 3240 Grand Prix Drive.
The speaker will be Avon Park City Manger Julian DeLeon. He will talk about important issues surrounding Avon Park today and expansion plans for the future.
Free coffee, tea, doughnuts and bagels will be available.
Pink Army "Strut" tickets selling quickly
SEBRING - Tickets are selling to "pink out" for prizes at the Pink Army Strut on Oct. 12 on the Circle in downtown Sebring.
The Pink Army breast cancer awareness campaign culminates in a night out at the second annual Florida Hospital Pink Army Strut benefiting the Florida Hospital Heartland Mammography Fund.
The first 500 registered participants receive a limited-edition drink tumbler and shopping swag bag filled with an assortment of pink goodies.
The evening will also feature a musical performance by Lotela Gold, a pampering station, shopping opportunities, a classic car show, Avon Park Jaycees' beverage tent and a variety of food trucks.
Tickets cost $20 with advance registration or $30 day of the event.

LPPD sponsoring first aid, CPR classes
LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Police Department will sponsor a first aid class at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and a CPR class at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Holiday Inn Express in Lake Placid.
Each class is $30; however, a discount is given to all participants who sign up for both first aid and CPR.
