— Highlands County 4-H will hold an open house 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Bert J. Harris Agriculture Center, 4509 George Blvd.

There will be club displays and interested parents can talk with 4-H agents, leaders, members, volunteers and staff. There will be onsite registration for new and returning members. Light refreshments will be served.

“4-H is young people sharing , doing and learning together in all kinds of projects, events and activities with the guidance of their families and volunteer adult leaders,” the group says.

4-H is open to anyone between the ages of 5-18 regardless of race, color, sex, religion, handicap or place of national origin.

Youths choose projects that fit them and the places they live. Group activities and events such as contests, trips, camps, fairs, shows and conferences provide additional opportunities and learning experiences. Project examples include sewing, robotics, cooking, nutrition, photography, gardening, fishing, horses, swine, rabbits, arts, Lego, beet and citrus.

Volunteer opportunities are also available.
