SEBRING - The Florida Department of Health in Highlands County is offering car seats and instruction on how to properly install them in vehicles from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Those who want to attend have to pre-register by calling 382-7233.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 75 percent of children are riding in car safety seats that aren't properly installed or don't fit correctly.
Cost is $20. Participants will first watch a 20 minute video on the dangers of improperly installed car seats and then the department's certified car seat technicians will show them how to properly install the seats and watch them installing the seats in their own vehicles.
"This is an important safety event," states a health department news release. It's about two hours long.
"Bring your child, bring your vehicle, have cash or check, and reservations are required," the news release adds.
The health department is located at 7205 S. George Blvd., in Sebring, behind the Highlands County Sheriff's Office building at Liberty Star Plaza.
