— Danyelle Denise Smith, 30, of Lake Placid, was charged Tuesday for shoplifting several clothing items from Walmart.

A store detective told arresting Highlands County Deputy Daniel Cordero that he had seen Smith “willfully and wantonly removing sales tags off several items in clothing. I was also informed that Smith was currently in the shoe department stuffing the clothing ... into Walmart shopping bags.”

When Smith exited the garden door past the cash registers, the deputy was waiting. She was arrested for grand theft and escorted back to the loss prevention office, the report states.

A check of her shopping bags showed the items totaled $374, the deputy’s report said. She was told if she ever returned to Walmart, she would be trespassing, and was taken to Highlands County Jail on grand theft charge.
