LAKE PLACID -One of two suspects authorities say tried to rob a person in Lake Placid Jan. 12 was charged with robbery with a firearm Jan. 17 and remains in Highlands County Jail without bail.

Alkheem Rasheed Portee, 18, reportedly was identified by the victim as one of the two suspects who approached him with a firearm and chased him while he walking in the area of Service Alley and Park Street, Lake Placid Police Chief James Fansler said in an email.

The victim escaped and notified law enforcement. Portee was previously arrested on a Highlands County Sheriff's Office case for a "similar" offense, Fansler said

According to Highlands County Jail records, Portee had been charged Jan. 16 with fraudulent use of a credit card, grand theft and robbery with a firearm.

Lake Placid police are continuing their investigation of three other armed robberies within the town, Fansler said, and officers are trying to identify more suspects in these cases.
