LORIDA - A Lake Placid man died Monday after his boat hit a low-lying tree branch, apparently causing him to be ejected into Arbuckle Creek, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said Tuesday.

The body of Jesse B. Shirley, 40, 124 Ida Ave., Lake Placid, was discovered about 5:11 p.m. Monday, said Gary Morse, the spokesman.

Morse said that the body was discovered about two miles from Neibert's Fish Camp, where Shirley had departed in his boat around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Friends became concerned later that morning when Shirley did not return and began searching for him, Morse said. They found his capsized airboat later that morning, Morse said.

The FWC is investigating the accident. It received unverified reports that Shirley had been drinking alcoholic beverages Sunday, Morse said.
