VERO BEACH - The jury in the Jeff Carlson trial came back at 8:15 p.m. with a verdict of guilty of two lesser included offenses.

Carlson, a former county commissioner, was on trial for his role in a deadly boating accident.

He was found guilty of misdemeanor boating under the influence, which is a lesser offense than boating manslaughter, a felony.

The jury also decided Carlson was guilty of navigational violations, another misdemeanor.

The maximum punishment for BUI is six months in jail; the maximum for navigational violations is two months.

Sentencing will be held in October.
