Fourth of July festivities, fireworks set

Highlands County will be observing July 4th with gusto. Here is a line-up of some planned activities:

Little Theatre:

The Highlands Little Theatre will present a patriotic show every hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 4.

Hot dogs, brats, chili, soda, beer and more will be available, with proceeds benefitting the Janelou Buck Scholarship Fund.

Sebring fireworks

City of Sebring fireworks will take place at 9 p.m. July 5 over Lake Jackson, weather permitting.

Avon Park fireworks, family day

The City of Avon Park will start its Fourth of July celebration with Family Fun Day at 10 a.m. at Donaldson Park July 4. There will be food, a DJ, free activities and a bounce house benefitting the Boys and Girls Club.

The fireworks display will start at 9 p.m. over Lake Verona.

Sun 'n Lake fireworks, entertainment

The Sun 'n Lake of Sebring "Independence Day Celebration" will include fun for all ages. Festivities and fireworks are set from 5-10 p.m. July 3 at the Sun 'n Lake Clubhouse lawn.

Live entertainment by the Shannon Reed Band, festival foods and children's activities will lead up to the fireworks finale at 9 p.m.

Face painting, games, bounce houses and balloon animals will highlight the children's activities.

A cornhole tournament hosted by Sun 'n Lake Golf Club will begin at 5:30 p.m. To enter a team, call 385-4830.

Admission is $2 per person with children 2 and under admitted free. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Sun 'n Lake District Office. The first 500 paid entrants will receive a glow necklace. There will be options for hot dog or hamburger meals starting at $5 and Island View Restaurant will offer a buffet for $15. Bring chairs and blankets. No coolers or pets will be permitted.

Lake Placid fireworks

Town of Lake Placid fireworks will take place at 9 p.m. July 4 at the Lake June ball fields.
