Former Sebring mayor dies

Published:

SEBRING - A memorial service will be held Feb. 8 at First United Methodist Church as 11 a.m. for former Mayor Smith Rudasill.

Rudasill, who served as mayor for 24 years, was remembered by current Mayor George Hensley as a "quiet, but very positive person."

Hensley said he served on the City Council part of the time Rudasill served as mayor, from around 1974 to 1999. Hensley decided to seek the mayor's position after Rudasill decided not to seek re-election, Hensley said.

Rudasill generally didn't say much at meetings, and as a result "when he spoke, we listened," Hensley said.

Sebring City Councilman John Griffin also remembered Rudasill as a quiet man during meetings.

"He was a great guy," Griffin said.

Rudasill lived in Sebring for many years, Hensley said. He added that Rudasill owned a business called South Florida Motor Co., which sold and repaired farm equipment.

Flags will remain at half staff at Sebring City Hall until Feb. 10 in honor of Rudasill.
