AVON PARK- Authorities have identified the driver killed in a single-vehicle accident in Avon Park Tuesday afternoon as 59-year-old Robert L. Durnham III of Avon Park.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Durnham was going south on North Lake Avenue at 3:40 p.m. when, for someone unknown reason, he lost control of his Ford Explorer.

The SUV went over a curb and the shoulder, on the west side of the road, colliding with a light pole, the report adds.

The Ford then got back on the road, began to rotate counterclockwise and to overturn, the report adds.

While overturning, it crossed into the northbound lane of Lake Avenue, and Durnham was ejected from the vehicle, the FHP adds.

He was not wearing a seat belt, the report adds. His body was taken to the District 10 Medical Examiner's Office, the FHP states.
