Elwell seeking re-election

SEBRING - District 2 incumbent Don Elwell has filed the paperwork for re-election to county commissioner.

Elwell was elected in 2010.

The other incumbent on the board, Jack Richie, R-Lake Placid, has also filed, but they have no challengers. Richie has no outside contributions, and Elwell is not been required to file a contributions report yet.

"I had delayed filing the paperwork a bit, and was getting a lot of questions about whether I was going to run," Elwell said. "It was absolutely never a question of desire, that's for sure. My responsibilities at Alan Jay have expanded tremendously over the past couple months, and I wasn't going to run for re-election unless I knew I could dedicate the same amount of time and work as a commissioner as I have throughout my first term."

Elwell is director of marketing and public relations for the Alan Jay Automotive Network.

Elwell, R-Spring Lake, has lived in Highlands County since 2002. District 2 is Highlands County's largest district with 40 of the 1,100 square miles. It also covers the unincorporated eastern portions of Avon Park, Sebring, Lake Placid and Lorida.
