Drug investigation involves Highlands County

Published:

AVON PARK Federal authorities found guns and methamphetamine in an Avon Park mobile home, as part of a wider investigation that led to two men being indicted and $2.2 million seized in Polk County, a press release from the office of U.S. Attorney Robert O’Neil said on Tuesday.

The investigation led to the arrests of Scott Robert Eargood, 21 and Santos Zamora-Escobar, 27, both of Poinciana on charges of possession with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, the press release said.

A search of a residence in Poinciana led to the seizure of 110 pounds of methamphetamine, the press release said.

The press release said federal agents as part of the same investigation searched a mobile home on East Oak Island Road in Avon Park and found 4 ounces of methamphetamine, a long rifle, an AK-47-type rifle and three handguns.

No arrests were announced directly as part of that search and more definitive information regarding the connection between the mobile home and the Polk County investigation was unavailable.
