SEBRING — Two schools were briefly put on lockdown Thursday after a man fled from authorities in the DeSoto City area, officials said.
Nell Hays, public information officer for the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, said Sebring High School and Fred Wild Elementary School were on lockdown, but released from it by 11 a.m.
The incident began after the Sheriff’s Office received a call of a suspicious person in the DeSoto City area, Hays said. When deputies saw the “suspicious person,” he fled on foot, she said.
Authorities don’t know for sure whether he had a weapon, but were able to identify the man, she said.
Law enforcement officers were asked to be on the lookout for him, Hays said.
