A Sebring man may have been successful in getting rid of what authorities think was most of his cocaine by swallowing it when cops arrived, but he missed a fleck on his shirt, according to an arrest report.
Samuel Molina Fernandez, 45, 4646 Nadena Drive, Sebring, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Wednesday and charged with resisting an officer without violence, possession of cocaine and tampering with evidence.
The arrest came after deputies stopped a vehicle leaving a high-crime area near Cummings Avenue and Garrett Road, the report said.
When deputies came to believe that Fernandez had cocaine in his mouth, "he started grinding his teeth in an attempt to destroy the cocaine," the report said.
But deputies arrested Fernandez after observing "a small hard white-like substance on the front of his shirt that appeared to be consistent with that of cocaine," the report said.
He was released on $2,500 bond.
