SEBRING — There’s no indication a Venus man was suffering from severe memory loss when he told deputies that nothing illegal was in his vehicle, a report released Thursday indicates.
But when that turned out not to be the case, Highlands County deputies arrested Jacob David Knowles, 41, 34 Hendry Drive, and charged him with possession of a weapon or firearm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell/manufacture or deliver, possession of cocaine, possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.
He is accused of tampering with evidence and introduction of contraband into a jail when he was being taken to jail, the report says.
The arrest came after deputies searched the vehicle and found a small green portable cooler with three firearm magazines and numerous types of ammunition, the report said.
They also located a leopard skin patterned bag with a bag of marijuana, methamphetamine, several empty baggies, cocaine and a scale, the report said.
Authorities also found a handgun, and since Knowles is was on felony probation, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition, the report said.
A passenger said when Knowles picked her up she noticed a gun inside his waistband. She told deputies she objected that and Knowles then put it in the glove box , the report said.
