LAKE PLACID - A suspect in the robbery of a Hispanic man in Sun 'N Lake, Lake Placid was nabbed after he used the victim's debit card, according to a warrant affidavit.

Alkheem Rasheed Portee, 18, of 175 Curve St., Lake Placid, was arrested Thursday and charged with grand theft, armed robbery and credit card fraud.

The victim had reported that two males robbed him as he ran from them Jan. 5 on St. Lucie St., the warrant affidavit said.

One of the robbers eventually caught him and knocked him to the ground, while the other held a gun to his neck, the victim reported.

They took his wallet, he told authorities.

Later that day, the man's debit card, which had the PIN number written on the back, was used at two banks, the warrant affidavit said.

At Wells Fargo in Sebring, someone withdrew $300 with the debit card and at SunTrust in Lake Placid, someone took out $200.

A detective who saw an image from the ATM at Wells Fargo knew the card user was Portee, the report said.

Other deputies agreed with the identification, the report said.

The robbery was one of six robberies or attempted robberies recently involving Hispanic victims in the Lake Placid area. Four of the crimes occurred in the town of Lake Placid, but no arrests have been made.

Seven people were arrested recently in a robbery of six Hispanic residents in a home in Sun 'N Lake, Lake Placid.
