Woman accused of damaging neighbor's car with bat

AVON PARK - It's OK to hit a ball with a baseball bat, but not to use it to strike a car window, a woman learned Feb. 24.

Stephanie Maria Hawthorne, 28, 1107 W. Pleasant St., Avon Park, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The arrest came after a woman reported that her neighbor hit one of her car's windows with an aluminum baseball bat, the report said.

The woman also reported that Hawthorne threatened a man with the bat. It indicates that Hawthorne was upset because the man was having a relationship with the woman who reported the incident.

Man arrested on theft charge

AVON PARK - An Avon Park man accused of stealing a speaker amplifier won't be listening to loud music in the Highlands County jail.

Kyle Lewis Alan Looney, 19, 921 W. Ruth St., Sebring, was arrested this week on a warrant and charged with third-degree grand theft and dealing in stolen property.

The arrest came after Looney's roommate reported that Looney stole the amplifier. A man who bought the amplifier from Looney told deputies that he had asked a woman if she knew where he could get an amplifier and she introduced him to Looney.
