Man arrested on drug charge

SEBRING - When a deputy stopped a car he became suspicious that the matter involved more than bad driving when he saw the driver's hands shaking, according to a report released Tuesday.

John Allen Yohe, 44, 7589 E. Horse Hammock Road, Avon Park, the driver, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 12 and charged with possession of methamphetamine.

The deputy stopped his vehicle after noticing he crossed onto the shoulder at least five times, the report said.

Yohe contended his bad driving was because he was talking on a cell phone, but a deputy found methamphetamine in the vehicle, the report said.

Man arrested on theft charge

SEBRING - A Sebring man accused of shoplifting gave up after trying to outrun not only a Sebring police officer, but also a witness to the shoplifting, a report said.

Justin Douglas Fairman, 30, 419 Grapefruit Ave., Sebring, was arrested Feb. 11 and charged with third-degree grand theft and resisting an officer without violence.

The arrest came after a police officer arrived and a witness pointed to Fairman, who attempted to flee the parking lot at Wal-Mart, as the shoplifter, the report said.

Both the officer and the witness ran after Fairman, the report said. When the witness grabbed Fairman's shirt, Fairman pushed him off of him, the report said.

Eventually, when the officer threatened to taser Fairman, Fairman gave up, the report said.

Wal-Mart reported that Fairman was observed leaving the store without paying for about $326 in meat products and dog food.
