Man accused of assaulting an officer

LAKE PLACID - A Lake Placid man is accused of slamming a door on a deputy's arm, according to a report released Monday.

Akua Travon Samuels, 26, 1525 Buck St., Lake Placid, was arrested Dec. 28 by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.

A deputy wrote in the arrest report that Samuels, while trying to flee him, struck him in the chest and slammed a door on his arm.

Later, Samuels tried to bite an emergency medical technician, the report said.

Deputies found that he had drug equipment with marijuana residue, the report said.

Man accused of having drugs

SEBRING - It might not be a good idea to make contact with police if someone in your car has illegal drugs.

A Sebring man was arrested Dec. 30 after another man, who was in a car with him, made contact with a police officer driving nearby, according to a report released Tuesday.

Ricky Lee Eubanks, 32, 9242 Morgan Path, Sebring, was arrested Dec. 30 by the Sebring Police Department and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug equipment.

The officer arrested Eubanks after another man in the car asked the officer if he had pliers, the report said.

When the officer got near the car, the report said, he noticed that Eubanks appeared to be trying to avoid contact with him.

Further investigation resulted in the discovery of the methamphetamine, the report said.
