Woman accused of shoplifting

SEBRING - A woman was arrested after shopping at the Lakeshore Mall, but not paying for items, according to a report released Monday.

Iva Dayhira Guardado, 47, 112 Sunflower Drive, Lake Placid, was arrested Dec. 28 by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with third-degree grand retail theft in coordination with others.

Security video at Bealls Department Store showed Guardado and a juvenile removing clothes from racks and then going into fitting rooms, a report said.

The woman and the juvenile then tried to conceal the clothing in bags, while leaving the store, the report said.

Man accused of possessing drugs

SEBRING - A man's attempts to get rid of drugs after a deputy discovered he had the illegal substances failed, according to a report released Friday.

Cwan Demetris Dewberry, 43, no address given, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with resisting an officer without violence, possession of cocaine, possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.

The deputy who arrested Dewberry reported that he was near Lemon Avenue when he saw a man riding a bicycle without required lighting, the report said.

After he stopped the man on the bicycle, the suspect gave him permission to search him, the report said.

The deputy found what he believed was cocaine residue in a glass pipe, but Dewbery tried to push the pipe toward the ground and flee, the report said.

The deputy also discovered that the man was trying to swallow marijuana, the report said.
