Man accused of injuring girlfriend and 4-month-old child

AVON PARK - A man who was accused of stomping his girlfriend in the head and injuring a 4-month-old child was arrested on a warrant Wednesday, according to a warrant issued Tuesday.

Erick Joseph Rondil, 20, no address given, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery and child abuse.

His arrest was tied to an incident in October in which his girlfriend reported that after they got into an argument, Rondil kicked open the door to the room where she was hiding and began "stomping her head with his foot," the report said.

When the woman escaped and ran toward the bed, Rondil began "punching her in the head and upper body with a closed fist," the woman told authorities.

At some point, Rondil threatened to kill the woman and said he didn't care if he went to jail, the report said.

Rondil also was accused of injuring the child while attacking the woman, the report said.

When he noticed the child was injured, he took the child from his girlfriend's hands and placed the crying child on the floor, the report said.
