Man accused of assaulting another man

AVON PARK - A man was arrested after being accused of attempting to strangle another man, according to a report released Wednesday.

Daneill Leford Brown, 22, no address given, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with burglary with assault or battery.

The victim told authorities that a woman invited him by text to come to her residence. After he arrived, the woman and he sat in his car, the report said.

At some point, the report said, Brown is accused of getting into the car and attempting to strangle the victim and then putting him in a headlock.

When the victim pretended to be unconscious, Brown pulled him out of the vehicle, the report said.

When Brown attempted to grab the victim's legs, the victim kicked Brown, he told authorities.

Brown contended that he acted to stop the victim from raping the woman.

But, the report said, the woman initially did not claim that. Only after the victim stated that he was trying to protect the woman, did she say Brown tried to rape her, the report said.

Woman arrested on cocaine charges

AVON PARK - A woman involved in a domestic disturbance ended up being arrested on drug charges, according to a report released Wednesday.

Chastity S. McCrae, 36, 2404 N. Triton Road, Avon Park, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with resisting an officer without violence, possession of cocaine, possession of drug equipment and tampering with evidence.

The arrest came after deputies responded to a domestic dispute and decided to use the scent from a shoe to track the woman's husband, the report said. But they discovered a bag of cocaine in a shoe, the report said.

McCrae tried to grab and swallow the cocaine, the report said.
