Man charged with burglary

SEBRING - A man suspected of more than a dozen business burglaries in Highlands County has been charged in connection with a car burglary, according to a report released this week.

Leonardo Cardoso Perez, 42, 813 Corvette Ave., Sebring, was arrested by the Sebring Police Department and charged with burglary of a vehicle and petit theft.

The arrest came after a woman reported that she parked her cat at Wal-Mart and that someone stole a Relay for Life Canister with about $50 in change, cell phone headphones and two packs of cigarettes.

Perez was using his mother's vehicle during the burglaries, he said.

Man charged with child sexual abuse

AVON PARK - An Avon Park man was arrested after being accused of sexually abusing a child between the ages of 8 and 9, according to a report released this week.

Roy Sequra Aleman, 38, no address given, was arrested and charged with sexual assault and lewd/lascivious molestation, the report said.

The man denied touching the child. The sexual abuse incidents occurred five years ago, the report indicates.
