Man accused of dumping tires near street

AVON PARK - A 19-year-old man was arrested after being accused of dumping 84 tires on the side of a city street, according to a report released Wednesday.

Damion Jamal Collins, 1439 S. Georgia Ave., Avon Park, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony littering.

The arrest came after Collins' father told deputies that he had asked his son to dispose of the tires and the son thought it was OK to put the tires near the road where the city would pick them up, the report said.

Deputies tracked the tires to Collins' father after a resident living near the dump area found a proof of insurance document for the vehicle used to transport the tires, the report said.

That vehicle was registered in the father's name, the report said. The city is asking to be reimbursed $499.51 for picking up the tires, the report said.

Man arrested on drug charges

SEBRING - When a man told authorities he didn't have any illegal substances on him, it didn't take them long to prove him wrong, according to a report released Tuesday.

Steven Eric Brown, 40, 4601 Mundell Ave., Sebring, was arrested Oct. 21 and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A deputy stopped Brown on his bicycle because the bicycle did not have proper lighting, the report said.

Brown allowed the deputy to search him, the report said.

Underneath Brown's cap, the deputy found crack cocaine, the report said.
