Woman charged with stealing car from neighbor

SEBRING - A Sebring woman refused to take no for an answer and ended up being arrested because of that, according to a report released Thursday.

Kristi Lane Hunter, 27, 1238 Melody Lane, Sebring, was arrested Sept. 18 by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle.

The arrest came after a man reported that Hunter and another woman, who are neighbors, asked him for a ride in his car, but he declined.

The man told investigators he then discovered he had left his cell phone in his residence and he went inside, leaving the key in the ignition with the engine running.

When he came outside, he discovered the car was gone, the report said.

A few minutes later a Florida Highway Patrol officer stopped the vehicle after it went through a stop sign and arrested the driver, Hunter, after discovering she had a suspended driver's license.

Hunter claimed she had permission to take the car, the report said.

It also was discovered Hunter had a warrant for her arrest on a charge of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, according to reports.

Man arrested on drug charges

LAKE PLACID - When a man claimed he didn't know what was in his pocket, that didn't stop him from being arrested, according to a report released Thursday.

Daryl Matthew Tomblin, 31, 5049 Northeast 224th St., Okeechobee, was arrested Oct. 18 by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug equipment.

Deputies had stopped Tomblin's vehicle and discovered Xanax and a substance suspected to be methamphetamine, the report said.

When asked about a bag of pills in his pocket, Tomblin told the deputy, "I don't know," the report said.
