Man accused attempted burglary

LAKE PLACID - For a Lake Placid man, Thursday apparently did not turn out to be a good day. Not only did he fail to break into a building, but he also was arrested, authorities said.

Turrell Lavoy Walker, 27, 493 Washington Blvd. Northeast, Lake Placid, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling.

Witnesses had given law enforcement officers a description of the man who tried to break into the dwelling and Walker fit that description, an arrest report said.

Convicted sex offender accused of failing to register

AVON PARK - An Avon Park man was accused Thursday of failing to comply with the registration law for sex offenders, according to an arrest report.

Christopher Lee Kizzire, 35, 1995 W. County Line Road, Avon Park, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with failure as a sex offender to comply with the sex offender registration law.

An arrest report said that between April and August, Kizzire, who was convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl in Alabama in 2008, failed to obtain a driver's license or identification card, an arrest report said.

That was despite being told that the law required him to do that, the report said.
