Man accused of not performing work despite being paid

AVON PARK - The owner of a tree service business was arrested on a warrant Wednesday after an 84-year-old woman reported she paid him for work he never completed, according to a report released Thursday.

Johnnie Earl Gallegos, 47, 2099 W. Royalton Road, Avon Park, the owner of JG's All Around Tree Service, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with third-degree grand theft and exploitation of an elderly person.

The 84-year-old woman reported that Gallegos agreed to remove two trees and charged $700 for each one, the report said.

The woman said she paid $700 for one tree being removed in May and the work was done, the report said.

Gallegos, at his request, was paid in advance $700 for the second tree, but never did the work, the report said.

Woman arrested on drug charges

SEBRING - A Lake Placid woman was arrested Wednesday after evidence of drugs in her possession was discovered during a traffic stop, a report said.

Meghan Eileen Donnelly, 34, 100 Lakeridge Drive, Lake Placid, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office July 24 and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A search of the vehicle in which she was a passenger ended up with the discovery of drug residue, the report said.

Donnelly denied using drugs, the report said.
