Man, woman arrested on drug charges

AVON PARK - A man and a woman were arrested after authorities executed a search warrant and found a stolen gun and drugs, according to arrest reports released Friday.

Davina Andrea Bellamy, 24, 1228 Memorial Drive, Apt. 2, Avon Park, was arrested July 11 by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, grand theft of a firearm, possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver, possession of Ecstasy, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of cocaine, trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Clifton Bernard Hall, 39, 1228 Memorial Drive, Avon Park, was arrested July 11 by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, grand theft of a firearm, possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver, possession of cocaine, possession of more than 20 grams or marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrests were made after members of the Sheriff's Office's Special Investigations Unit searched the residence and found drugs and a gun reported stolen out of St. Lucie County.

Man accused of trading vehicle, but then getting a title for it

AVON PARK - An Avon Park man traded vehicles with another man, but later obtained a title to one of his former vehicles, a report released Thursday said.

Leonard G. Franzel, 65, 2833 N. Bowden Road, Avon Park, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office on a warrant and charged with making a false statement in a title transfer.

The report said that another man and Franzel decided on Oct. 17, 2012, to trade vehicles. The deal was that Franzel offered a 1966 Chevelle, along with an enclosed trailer, and a 1997 Chevrolet pickup, in exchange for the other man's 1970 Chevelle.

The other man did not immediately seek to retitle the Chevelle, but when he did on Jan. 15, 2013, he learned that he couldn't because Franzel had applied for a duplicate title in his name, the report said.

When Franzel applied for the duplicate title, he certified that the original title was lost or destroyed, the report said.

He later told authorities he purposely did that to prevent the other man from titling the vehicle, the report said.

Woman accuses husband of threatening her with machete

AVON PARK - An Avon Park man was arrested after his wife accused him of threatening to kill her with a machete, a report released Thursday said.

James Leroy Hulen, 31, no address given, was arrested July 10 by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery and resisting an officer without arrest.

The wife told deputies that Hulen accused her of cheating on him and "waved the machete in her face, while stating he was going to kill her if she didn't tell him the truth," the report said.

She also reported that her husband struck her several times with his fist and that she suffered a laceration to her nose, the report said.

Hulen remained in the Highlands County jail with bond being set at $15,500, as of press time.
