SEBRING-It's time for the annual Cracker Trail Ride, and riders will be crossing Highlands County Wednesday for those who want a first-hand glimpse into the cross-state ride that re-enacts Florida's past.

The riders are scheduled to make a stop at Cracker Trail Elementary at around 10 a.m. Wednesday and cross U.S. 27 around noon, weather permitting.

In 1987, a group of people with a love for history, came together to form the Florida Cracker Trail Association, to recreate a part of Florida's past.

That has become a traditional event.

The ride highlights Florida's role in the introduction of horses and cattle into the New World and "the birth and continuance" of the cattle and horse industries by its future settlers and their descendants, the association states.
