Clerk released from hospital

Published:

AVON PARK - The convenience store clerk who was shot during a robbery Wednesday evening has been released from the hospital.

Highlands County Sheriff's Office Chief Mark Schrader said the victim was released Friday from the hospital.

The investigation is continuing, he added.

The robbery occurred about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Shell Gas Station and Convenience Store, 998 U.S. 27 N., Avon Park.

The perpetrator, who was covered in clothes, entered the store with a gun, which prompted the clerk to open the cash drawer and give the money to the robber, according to the sheriff's office. The robber then shot the clerk, despite the clerk handing over the money.

Since the robber was covered in clothes, neither the clerk or the surveillance video images could provide a good description of the suspect, according to the sheriff's office.
