SEBRING – City Pier Beach will reopen this evening, City Administrator Scott Noethlich said Wednesday.
But while that beach is reopening next week, Veteran’s Beach boat ramp will close for a few days.
The pier beach passed the final inspection by the county’s health department, Noethlich said.
Earlier this week, the city was notified that bacteria levels were satisfactory to open the water to swimming.
The beach had been closed since 2008 when a man drowned in a dredge hole. But this year, the city hired company to fill the hole.
A celebration of the reopening is expected to be held in June.
Meanwhile, the Veteran’s Beach boat ramp will be closed beginning 6 a.m. Monday, May 13, until further notice.
The closing will allow the installation of sheet pilings on both sides of the boat ramp. The sheet piling will help prevent sand from accumulating on the boat ramp.
City officials anticipate the ramp will reopen by the Memorial Day weekend.
