City approves outdoor sculpture program

SEBRING - Within the next year, Sebring officials hope that outdoor sculptures will be in place in the Sebring downtown area.

The Community Redevelopment Agency and the Sebring City Council agreed that efforts would be made to obtain, on a temporary basis through Polk County, sculptures by artists nationally. Local artists could submit proposals to be involved.

The City Council favored seeking a grant to help with the expenses regarding the sculptures.

Councilman John Clark objected to seeking the grant, saying the money would come from the National Endowment for the Arts.

He said he objects to using federal funds for that purpose.

Council members also reserved final approval on where the sculptures will be placed.
