- On Thursday morning, the U.S. Postal Service, along with first responder agencies in Highlands County, will hold an evacuation and drill at the Lake Placid Post Office, 901 Hillcrest Ave. .

There will be no disruption of mail service, and postal officials say residents should not be alarmed as emergency procedures are tested. The post office is simply holding a drill, which will put into place emergency procedures that will be used should a suspicious item with possible biohazard materials be discovered at the post office, postal authorities add.
