MANATEE COUNTY -An Avon Park motorcyclist and his passenger had serious injuries after their Harley-Davidson hit a deer at 3 a.m. Thursday on State Road 64 in Manatee County, authorities said.

Curtis B. Jackson, 65, was going east on S.R. 64 when he encountered a deer on the road, one mile from Dam Road, a Florida Highway Patrol report said.

The bike hit the deer and overturned on its left side, sliding 316 feet before coming to a rest on the eastbound lane, the report adds.

Both Curtis Jackson and his passenger, Shirley E. Jackson, 70, also from Avon Park, were thrown off the bike, the FHP adds.

They were taken to Blake Medical Center and were not wearing helmets, the report adds. Alcohol was not a factor, the FHP adds.
