AVON PARK -

A local man was killed at 6:20 p.m. Friday when a pickup truck and a van collided.

A Florida Highway Patrol report said a 1997 Ford E-350 van driven by Bernardo Meza-Gomez, 26, of Frostproof, was southbound on Memorial Drive when a 1994 Nissan pickup driven by Lindsley D. Walker, 55, of Avon Park, eastbound on East Canfield Street, “entered Memorial Drive from the posted stop intersection into the immediate path” of the van.

Walker was transported to Florida Hospital Heartland and died a short time later, according to Trooper Mark Marcus’ report. Alcohol was not a factor.

Meza-Gomez was not injured. The van contained nine passengers, all from Avon Park. None reported injuries.
