Avon Park kicks off local online portal for charity needs, groups

AVON PARK - Ridge Area Arc Inc. needs donated folding chairs while the Avon Park Chamber of Commerce is looking for someone to volunteer at the front desk.

A new web page, managed locally by the Avon Park Chamber of Commerce, brings together charitable groups, their events and needs in one place.

New executive director Tori Trinder has a Chamber for Good page started for Highlands County.

The nationwide service is provided by Chamber Dynamics Inc., which is based in Surprise, Ariz.

Trinder said any 501c3 group engaged in charitable activities benefiting Highlands County residents in need can be a part of the Chamber for Good portal.

The web site, which can be accessed through the Avon Park Chamber of Commerce home page, has spots where groups can list not just in-kind donation needs but monetary donations, charity events and open volunteer spots.

Trinder is hoping the site, which had its soft opening earlier this month, becomes a one-stop place connecting non-profits with volunteers and donors.

For instance, she's hoping all the local schools sign up, including non-profits, to advertise their upcoming benefits' events.

Those interested can register on the web site, http://www.chamberforgood.com/avonpark, or call the Avon Park Chamber of Commerce, at 453-3350.

The service is free and you don't have to be a chamber member to be part of it, although only Avon Park chamber members will be profiled in the featured charity section.

Trinder added the new web feature was done in conjunction with the chamber's new web site, which improves the online presence of all of its members.
