Authorities search for suspect

LAKE PLACID — Authorities were searching Wednesday for a 41-year-old man in connection with shooting death of a man in Highway Park early Monday morning, Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton said.

Travis Devon Wiggins, 108 Arron Drive, Unit 20, Lake Placid, was wanted on a warrant charging him with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon.

He was wanted in connection with the death of Lee Andrew Thomas Jr., 34, of Moore Haven, who was found fatally shot near Highway Park Liquors on Vision Street.

Wiggins has served time in prison on several occasions, according to the Florida Department of Corrections website.

Most recently, he served time in prison from Nov. 25, 2009, to March 27, 2012, on charges of felony driving while license suspended, revoked or cancelled and two counts of fleeing from a law enforcement officer.

His first prison sentence was from Jan. 8, 1993, to March 23, 1993, when he was convicted in Highlands County of aggravated assault.

He was sentenced to one year and two months in prison on May 17, 2001, for sale of cocaine in Hillsborough County and served time from July 10, 2001, to Feb. 3, 2002.

He also had convictions for fleeing in 2001 in Hillsborough County and for sale of cocaine in 2002 in Highlands County. He served time in prison from March 14, 2003, to Nov. 17, 2004, the web site says.
