SEBRING - A Sebring man apparently killed his wife and then himself on Tuesday morning, Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton said.

Benton said her office was investigating a possible murder/suicide. When deputies arrived at the residence, they found two deceased people, apparently the man and wife, she said.

The deputies arrived after the sheriff's office received a call from a man who said he had killed his wife and was going to kill himself, she said in a press release. A SWAT team and a crisis negotiation team were unable to make any further contact with the man, she said.

Benton said that with the help of the State Fire Marshal's Office, deputies sent in a robot and discovered the two bodies.

Names of the deceased were not being released, pending notification of family members.
