AP Middle School places first in academic challenge

Published:

— Middle school students from across the county competed May 17 in the Highlands County Academic Challenge at Sebring High School’s Smith Center.

As teams arrived for the competition wearing their school colors, Avon Park Middle School was able to wear uniforms for the first time due to donations by the Avon Park Noon Rotary and the Avon Park Champions Club.

The APMS Academic Team scored more points than all of the other schools at the competition and brought home first place.

Under the direction of APMS teachers Christine Pereira and Steven Manley, students began preparation for the competition several weeks in advance by meeting after school to review materials and adapt to the fast-paced nature of the event.

The APMS Academic Team coaches, along with the APMS staff, are proud of what their students accomplished and how well they represented Avon Park Middle School and the community, according to a press release.

Other schools were Sebring Middle School, Lake Placid Middle School and Hill-Gustat Middle School.
