AP man arrested on child porn charges

AVON PARK - An Avon Park man faces charges of possession of child pornography after being arrested by a state law enforcement officer who is part of a national Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Jeffrey Alan Weed, 44, of 1738 N. Crocus Road, was arrested Tuesday at his residence and charged with five counts of possession of child pornography.

In his report, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent Larry Long stated he is part of the national Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

After obtaining a search warrant from Tenth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Peter Estrada on Monday, Long and FDLE Special Agent Tracey Rousseau served the search warrant on Tuesday at Weed's address.

Weed agreed to be interviewed by the agents, who found a wristband-type USB drive in Weed's bedroom closet, Long's report states.

At the scene, a forensic preview showed the USB drive contained "numerous child pornography video files," the report shows. During the examination of the files, five video files of children engaged in sexual conduct were found.

The USB drive and other digital evidence was seized and taken to the FDLE Fort Myers Regional Operations Center for further examination, according to the report.

"It should be noted that additional counts may follow after a complete forensic examination is conducted on the computer and related materials," Long's report states.

The report lists Weed's occupation as "self employed."

The Highlands County Jail reports that Weed has been released after posting a $5,000 bond.
