EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A challenge to Michigan State University supporters after "Go Blue" was written across the East Lansing sky has led to more than $36,000 in donations to fight ovarian cancer.
The Lansing State Journal reports (http://on.lsj.com/19liDkS ) Friday that 1,200 people have heeded the call from Michigan State Alumni Association executive director Scott Westerman to create something meaningful from the prank seen by thousands attending a football game at Spartan Stadium.
Westerman had wanted donations to match the several thousand dollars it cost someone to have the University of Michigan slogan skywritten Saturday as Michigan State hosted Youngstown State. He also challenged Michigan alumni to match the donations.
Michigan's school colors are maize and blue. A school official acknowledged this week that Michigan's athletics department paid for the skywriting.
