LAKE PLACID - A former Lake Placid Police Department died last weekend and services re set for today.
Reserve Officer Ted Jay Silva died at his Punta Gorda home Aug. 10 in Charlotte County, according to a press release. Silva began his career at the Lake Placid Police Department after graduating from the South Florida State College Basic Law Enforcement Academy. Silva became an official member of the Lake Placid Police Department on May 18, 2010.
Since his time with the Lake Placid Police Department, Silva strived to assist in any capacity. He completed 605 hours of post-academy training, which included some courses such as instructor techniques, firearms instructor and several other classes that exhibited his dedication to law enforcement.
Silva had nearly 1,000 hours of service to the Lake Placid Police Department. Of those hours, he assisted in several CPR and first aid classes. He also played a part in security details for the caladium festival and country fairs, as well as the annual bicycle rodeos.
Services for Silva will be held at 11:30 a.m., today, at The Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 211 W. Charlotte Ave Punta Gorda.
