SEBRING - Fire demolished most of a mobile home Tuesday night, but no one was injured, authorities said Wednesday.

Joe Romanik, assistant fire chief for the West Sebring Fire Department, said firefighters stopped the fire from reaching part of the mobile home at 3320 Maine in Fairmont Mobile Homes Estates, but the remainder of the structure sustained significant water and smoke damage..

Neighbors had reported the fire and expressed concerns about someone being trapped in the mobile home, Romanik said.

When Highlands County deputies arrived, they knocked at the door and a woman in the back part of the mobile home, who was apparently unaware that the fire began at the front part, got out without injury, Romanik said.

The cause remains under investigation, he said.

DeSoto City Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid.
